The video's on the excal site are good.
FOC is Front Of Center or Forward Of Center
it refers to the arrows weight forward of the center mark.

fps= feet per second [arrow speed] It's like crack for some folks, lol. :D

bheight is brace height [where string sits at rest, we have choices w/ Excals.

w/= with

ELD= endless loop dacron string

FFF= Flemsh Fast Flyte [you get most fps w/ this, but dangerous to limbs w/ dryfire.

Dryfire= lack of putting an arrow on the rail prior to shooting the bow.

Dryfire Club= Those that committed above and admit it.

You'll find you can ask any questions you want here, we were all new once, and most asked the same ones.

just ask your questions, i picked up my excal. late this summer because i was not sure that i would be released by the doctor to pull my compound. happened to find this forum just scanning thru excal website and am i ever glad i did. these folks have helped me so much it is not even possible to explain or thank them enough. i get on here several times a day and often get answers to things that i had not thought of because of someone elses question. i was once told that the only dumb question is the one not asked, and i really believe that, so fire away.....these folks can really help.

No such thing as dumb questions when it comes to learning crossbows, ask away. Good folks here, they will help any way they can.

Maybe I should have entered my question on a new post? I'm new to xbow's too.

Refering to the bheight, is there an advantage or disadvantage of the string sitting on one hash mark or another? I'm assuming the string is more tight or less tight from one mark to the other.

I shoot an '09 Phoenix and the string is pretty much centered between the marks. That's how it came when I bought it.

I just found out from another post here a couple of weeks ago about what bheight meant. I found out today from this thread what FOC means! Cool!

Thanks to all out there. The last couple of months on this site has taught me a lot. I still have a lot more to learn though,so I'll keep reading more post here.

When it comes to brace height, keeping a dacron string in between the two hash marks will work and is acceptable.

The principle is that the closer to the front mark (5/8") you are, the faster the arrow speed, but the harsher the shot. When using a FFF string, which is less forgiving, the brace height should be at least 1", with 1 1/8" being what most folks use, and a good balance between speed and hashness.

OK, first question. My bow is in route, but I am somewhat at a loss with respect to brace height. On a compound, the distance from the string to the back of the grip or riser is the brace height. In respect to a crossbow, I see dimensions of an 1" or 1.1/8", where a compound has dimensions between 6" and 8" more or less. Where does one take the measurement on a crossbow?

Here's all you need to know about Excalibur:

Watch the DVD that comes with the bow.
Keep your thumb down.
Don't dry-fire it.

But I guess, with that user name you probably need more info...

That measurement would be from the riser to the string. The riser (which holds the limbs) stops at the point where it meets the rail (duh) (the rail has the groove the arrow rests in) so, from the start of the rail (or the back of the riser) to the string is what you measure.

1 and 1/8" seems about right.
