Trixie's First Kill...
What a day!! In a tree an hour before sunup pushed a couple of deer just to get there. At first light two does showed up. Those girls teased me for almost two hours! Staying just out of range, or screened by brush. first they're coming, then they turn, then they're coming, then, well you know. I was just about to ask them,"Are you coming over here or not?" when one of them starts my way. She gave me a marginal shot at 37-39 yds, but I didn't want to start Trixie out in a bad way. Nor did I want to wound this deer, and start my season off like that.
Anyway, they finally left me to gather up what was left of my nerves, and relax. It's a liitle cloudy, but I can see the sun, the birds are waking up everywhere, and the squirrels are busy as, well, squirrels. I hear a "squirrel" behind me digging like mad at something. Getting close and closer. I look around to see just what he is after, and there are 6 turkeys. Of course they spot me peeking and turn on that famous "turkey trot" down the mountain. If only hadn't peeked they would have likely fed right under my tree, going straight away. Offering a perfect shot . Oh well, so far I've had a real exciting morning.
Nothing else the rest of the day, just sitting in my tree, napping off and on, listening to the birds and the wind. It was just wonderful today in the woods, in my tree.
Then I hear a squirrel running in my direction from behind. Wait, that's NOT a squirrel! Trixie jumps into my hands as I stand up! There's a doe, 20 yds away, on my right, but turning to go straight away! No, not again! Then she turns slightly to her right and offers a quick shot at 32 yds! The arrow launches and I see it in the scope, it connects just as she turns past a sapling, CRACK!!
She wheels back 180 degrees and runs off. I watch her stop and put her head down. I grab my binos and check her out, she's wheezing, and starts to get crazy legs. She's down! It's 6:05 pm, I've been in my tree since 5:20 this morning.
I climb down, say a little prayer for the wildthings, say so long to my tree, get my arrow, wierd, there's not a drop of blood on my arrow, and a fletching has been cut nearly off! Lot's of blood on the ground, all the way to my deer.
Sorry to ramble on I can't help myself.

Congrats to you and your Trixie. Now that she's tasted "first blood", if she's anything like my "Maggie", who's just insatiable, she'll definitely lust for more.
