First of the Season (pic included)
Well I decided to head out after work today despite it being so windy. I started in my first stand but with a sudden wind shift it was blowing my scent right into a bedding area. I took a seat with my back at a clover bale just north of my second stand. I have seen quite a few spikers and does here so thought I would give it a shot.
About ten min. into my wait i slowly turn to the right and spot 8 does feeding at about 30 yards. I am no good at offhand shots so decided to watch them graze. Finally making her way closer one of the mature deer busted me at about 3 yards, they all take off running.
I thought all was lost but stuck it out anyways. I scan slowly to my right again and spotted this 7 point feeding. I manage to make it to the prone and send an arrow into him at about 15 yards. I still do not know how he didn't see all my movment.
Speedy recovery of about 100 yards into the bush and now he is hanging in my garage waiting for his appointment with the butcher tomorrow after work.

Nice looking animal. Another London area deer bites the dust!
If you don't mind me asking, where abouts do you hunt (roughly...just curious and I'm not looking to take your spot...lol!).
Also, what butcher do you use? I'm trying the guy in Mt Brydges this year....took mine out Monday morning. Looking forward to some pepperettes and sausage!
Congrats.

Fine animal. Congrats!
And yes, it is sometimes hard to understand "what they don't see and at other times understand what they do see."

Nice Buck, Great hunt
Mount Brydges is the place to go or Appin, both are fair and quick,
it's all getting expensive though anywhere you go, I think $20 to $25 for skinning and watch your budget for how much pepperettes or jerky you want...
I don't remember where a buddy in our group brought in a buck, but he said put it all in pepperettes and it was well over $400 in butchering and with the added pork, smoking and processing mixed in the costs,
I guess the buck's dressed weight was large...yummy, but have your visa ready,
