Finally !

Post by Old Exocet »

I shouldnt really complain, have only put in about 6 sits since bow opened, but today was the day. :)
At 8:13 this am I had a 5 point come ghosting down the game trail, he had come within 30 yards unseen behind a pine screen, but the screen also gave me time to position for the shooting lane he would pass and click safety off.
He walked into the clearing, scented the ground and then turned and looked directly towards my tree stand. I was already frozen like a rock with red dot on him, he turned to give me a perfect quartering away at 20 yards. I angled shot for the heart and fired at 8:15. Perfect WHACK. Could here him crashing thru brush for less than 30 secs before I heard him pile up.
Calmed the shakes for a bit and kept on listening, nothing, no thrashing. Came off stand after 30 mins after re-checking shot angle. Arrow was thru and thru with deep red blood. Found blood spray within 10 feet of arrow. Tracking was a gimme, he was spraying like a hose, but I took it dead slow regardless. Found him piled up against a tree less than 50 yards for where I arrowed him. I gave him my regard beore I cleaned him and brought him home. Found that arrow had taken one lung and passed thru the top of the heart. Beauty morning. :)

I also own an old exocet with carved limbs and just love that old bow.

I find myself hunting with the Phoenix now and leaving the old bow at home. But with my wife now starting to hunt again I just may lose the Phoenix and have to bring the old exocet out of retirement.
