A VERY slow start

Post by Alaspan »

Not to sure what's happening on the Quebec side, an hour outside of Ottawa. There are NO signs of rut activity. In fact, where there are normally many scrapes and rubs, absolutely nothing.
To make matters worse, we have only seen two deer since Saturday. And the area is LARGE. Last year, we did not harvest any bucks but took several in 2007...
It makes me wonder if the season is starting way too soon, and the rut is not on, or did a brutal winter two years ago, combined with coyotes destroy a once abundant population?
We're logging over 10 hours a day and this is not typical. Not even droppings to be seen.
I've taken today off and possibly tomorrow, but there is still a week left. Just had to get my fix on seeing other people succeed (thanks CrazyFramer!)

I had a chance to hunt in Dalkeith last week. Aside of the rain all we managed to see is a couple of flags in the bush and few tracks around the fields but no fresh rubs.
