I do not have a clue when you guys from north of the border talk about hunting in areas like wmu89A and so forth.

Would you be so kind as to educate your poor brethren south of the border and explain how this works so we can better understand your posts.

Every area is devided into sections. Province of Ontario is about 90 different sections. I live in 82B. Some areas hold different game than other areas. Way up north they get snow 2 months earlier than we do so breading times won't be the same ect. Some areas hold more moose than othe areas. Its about wild life management so no area is depleted of game. For deer, I can shoot a buck anywhere but can only shoot a doe in 82B

Its like Ohio being devided into 100 different hunting zones and they can have different rules and times of hunts. Or you can only shoot a doe in a fifty mile radius around your house but can shoot a buck anywhere. If your area gets depleted of deer you may for a year or two not even be allowed to shoot a doe. Ect.

Thanks wheelie, the explanation and the link really help. I am saving the link. Now when one of you guys throws out a wildlife management unit I can look it up and see where you are talking about.

Where I hunt in WMU 76 we have 4 different sections to it

Each section has different regs

76 A allows rife's and archery 76 B is controled hunt and archery only

Not sure about 76C & D

I live and hunt in 76B and some times hunt in 76 A

Here is Nova Scotia's breakdown. I hunt 2a, it's mostly private land but luckily I have permission from a land owner that is really close to my home.

The link also outlines the "Doe Draws" where you actually have to enter a lottery to be able to shoot does. This year, 2a was allowed a bonus antlerless tag and the regular tag is good for either/or(no draw needed), because the population has steadily grown due to less hunting in the coastal areas. The private land owners don't want to allow people to hunt their properties, but complain when their gardens get mowed down or the beamers get bruised...:S

I have a free App on my iPhone that is called DNR
It shows a map of the U.S. you click a state and the DNR website for that state comes up.
I don't think it includes canada,i'll have to check.

I just checked and it's only for the US. That would be a handy app for a buck.

Mike: there are no trophy deer in Ontario! Don't waste your time up here. I'm actually thinking I'm going to go stay with my uncle and aunt in Ohio and hunt there from now on....
