European "Skull" Mounts.... Part II

Post by Mike P »

I have completed the first two european mounts with black walnut plaques. The plaques can either hang or sit flat on a surface. In the pictures below, they are presented in the "non hanging" manner. They can easily be changed to wall mounts by reversing the center portion of the plaque. I believe I will eventually hang these two. I will play with the palmated buck when I receive him from the taxidermist but have a feeling I will display him in the manner you see these bucks below. That could change as I know I will need a lot of space to display him in this manner.

I will do a follow up when I complete the palmated buck.

And the second buck.

Very impressive Mike, are those the plastic skulls that were posted earlier? Thought I could dress up a few racks that have been hack sawed off. By the way, I've always been a fan of european mounts and would take a "deer of a lifetime" to get anything else. Crispy

Beautifully done. I really like the contrast of the black walnut.

Those mounts look awesome Mike, but I was under the impression you shot big bucks. LOL

Mike I love the way you did the mounts. Now for the dumb lady question----what type of router bit did you use? I am trying to do a mount similar to that --not as good but I have some African Mahogany and walnut that I would like to "merge" together. bottom walnut and top mahogany.

Any suggestions would help. What angle was the mount inset cut? thanks.
