My first buck.....young one

Post by Bowster »

Was out this morning with the temperature hovering around 0 deg C in the mix of freezing rain, snow and some more rain when this young guy was trying to make the moves on a doe. 18 yard shot with about a 100 yard recovery at 9:00 this morning.
This. lets say 5 pt, had a broken spike on one side with some sprouting brows. A slightly quartering to me shot but took out both lungs. Finding him wasn't a problem, the 100 grain slicktrick provided a 2 foot wide path of blood being coughed up. Quite surprised he went as far as he did but fell in a clearing and was able to drive right up beside him.

Not the best picture. Would have preferred to clean him up a bit first but it was raining pretty good.

If the thrill of the hunt is lost, then I have lost.

Way 2 go. I was out yesterday morning for 4 hrs, cold but nice & sunny. Only a bunch of Squirels where I was hunting!
A touch of frost has heightened your awareness and your heart steadily beats in anticipation. Your senses are suddenly alert to the movement on the forest floor and you realize that the moment of truth is at hand.

Good job of sticking with the hunt! Not a great day to be out. Congrats.

Congrats on the buck. I was out as well, and it was not comfortable out there. I managed to whack a coyote, and was happy to leave after that....I was soaked!

Nice job.
