Cold Feet!

Post by vixenmaster »

Well i got to my ground blind in the dark, waited fer awhile watching. I got cold feet so i fired up my propane heater! Wrong thing to do at the time. Its piezo gizmo to light it, gee it was loud & had to do it a dz times. Got it on & got toasty warm cept my ice cold feet! Lasted 3 hrs came to the house, i will bring a small step thing to prop up my feet off the ground next time. :(

So we are woosie's, my my. Maybe rubber boots with holes in them help keep my feet cold when its in the 20's & teens here. I know what cold is as i have been in it down to -60 on ships in the North Atlantic when i was in the Navy 40 yrs ago.

I think Sax has some circulation problems that exacerbate the effect of cold when he's out, Mike.

Besides, it's all about acclimation.

Having lived long periods in two different climates, I know it's all about what you're used to.

Smoke', Bob's advice about socks is sound. He oughta know a thing or three about cold.

Here's another tip:

I'm guessing you're in a ground blind. If you can, carry a 24" square of blue-board foam insulation to your blind next time you go ... and set your feet on that. The thermal break helps keep your feet warm. Or, you can go the bushcraft method, and make a platform of sticks with a thick cushion of dry moss on top. Straw works well, too. Dry and hollow is the key.

"Boot Blankets" work good, too ... you don't have to buy 'em. You can make them out of a worn out comforter or an old sleeping bag.

I get the idea that you're a woodswise ol' coon ... you'll figure something out.

Like my vanity plate says, "A Country Boy Can Survive"! :D 8)

When you take professional kayak lessons their motto is 'Cotton Kills" because it keeps you too cool when you capsize.

If it's warm enough for the skeeters to be out, I light my Thermacell when I leave the truck or 4 wheeler. No clicking sound when I get to the stand. It does seem that click can be heard a long way.
