My late season 9pt brute and years review

Post by crazyfarmer »

I really dont know what to say but 09 ended up being my best season to date. I set out on a mission to take a mature buck this season. I ended up tagging out on 3 mature bucks. Coutless hours in the woods before and during season had paid off. Trail camera research was a big help and I ended up putting 10 cameras out in the woods this year. I found out what was on the farms I worked and what spots I needed to key on. The biggest help of the cameras was knowing what bucks to look for and what bucks to pass. Every buck I had come by this season I had pics of and I know instantly to let walk or shoot. Anyhow, back to the late season buck that had appeared early in the year on trail camera. Last year I let a very nice, massive 6pt walk. This year he had grown into a buck known as crabbue pattie or afa freak nasty. I knew he was wide maybe 23-24inches and had a perfect rack with a split bladed G2.

I spent alot of early season after this buck with no luck. Didnt even get to see him during ML'er season either. He had vanished into the woods and creek bottoms. Little did I know a little doe would bring him by within 12 yards during a late season still hunt. I had my 20g H&R slug gun ready for the shot and he fell within sight of my stand. I knew exactly which buck he was before the shot which made the hunt much more special. His greatest spread from his G2's is 23.75 inches. Perfect tines and very nice brows. He's not the highest score deer ever, but he's a mainframe brute for me. This buck capped off my 09 season perfectly. I had taken 2 of the 3 deer I had on my hitlist this year. The other had fallen to another hunter. Now I have to save up money since all 3 are going on the wall. This is why I have the hunting house on order LOL. I have to thank my wife and family for supporting my addiction to antlers. Its been a season to remember and thanks to everyone for taking the time to share in my quests.

I have to add catcher and boxer to this post since they were part of the 09 season also.

You sure had a great season. That is three beautiful mature bucks. How many farms did you have to hunt to find all those mature bucks? Congratulations Farmer. We don't get that chance here in Pa. since we can only kill one buck per season.

Congrats CF . . .it's been fun for me just checking my text messages from you. LOL. I wonder if they keep a record for the best three bucks in a single season.

Very nice!

CF,

CONGRATS again!!! These pics are better than the sneak peak you sent on the cell phone. We are very fortunate to have the outdoor resources like we do in VA and you have certainly capitalized on them. You are very accomplished, dedicated and skilled hunter for your age (you are younger than most of us old guys  ) and I see many more bigger bucks in your future. You may want to double the size of that trophy room to save outgrowing it in a few years.
