Arrow Pullers

Post by mmecrossbow »

Which do you think is the best of these three products for pulling out the arrows without causing damage (I would be partial to Excalibur's product, but with the other two you can pull from closer to the tip, which would seem to decrease chances of bending the arrow):

Interesting...so different from the others. I can't believe that doesn't bend the arrow easily, and it has metal grips, how does it not bend or scratch up the arrows versus the soft grip? Interesting! Thank you!

Another vote for the Danny Miller puller. We've tried several pullers through the 3D season but the Danny Miller puller is THE go-to tool.

If you're in the KW area the Bow Shop carries them.

I have a home made version of the excalibur tool. It can work well, but unless the insert is glued really well(there usually not) it will just pull out. I just recently found out about your last two links and will be trying one of those. Like you said: You can pull at the front of the arrow! :D

Thank you very much, VixChix, this is so helpful :!:

one shot scott: so far, everyone seems to like the Danny Miller puller. Something very interesting I also came across, someone on a blog said using an exercise rubber band just easily wrapped around the arrow provides a perfect grip and clean removal. I have such bands, so was thinking to give that a try before making a decision.

VixChix: What do you think of the exercise rubber band idea? This is what they look like: https://www.schooloutfitters.com/catalo ... m_CHA-FB4R

Even with the Rubber bands there is a chance of damaging the fletchings. Danny Millers is the best and fast. The jaws are made of rubber hose material glued in place. Does not bend the arrow.

I used the Excal puller until it broke. The shaft pulled out of the handle. So I got out my tap and die set, put a thread on the part that inserts into the plastic handle, a nut on the inside of the handle, and she's solid now. I think I used a 1/4 inch thread die and a metric nut, which just fits down the handle hole.

This should be adapted to all Excal pullers from the sounds of it.

The second two are pretty much the same and for me they work the best.
You can grip the arrow right at the target which you are less likely to bend the shaft. Also you can rotate the arrow which helps it break away from the melted target.

The Dan Miller arrow puller will allow you to get hold of the shaft when very little of it is still sticking out of the target. Other arrow pullers require more of the shaft remaining in order to get a grip.
That is correct and that is one reason the Danny Miller's work better than the rest. We shoot a lot of 3D and it's not uncommon to have only 1/4" - 1/2" of arrow sticking out to grab on to and the other pullers just don't cut it in that situation.

You can also take a steel arrow blut made for small game, drill a hole in a small length of metal ,wood etc. for a handle and glue it in. I also drill a hole through it and drive a small pin so it will stay after the glue dries. It takes about ten min.

Thanks everybody, this is really helpful! :D Sounds like you need to have at least the Danny Miller puller in case there is too little arrow sticking out to grab onto and that other options might be nice when there's more.
