NAP 2 & 3 blade Bloodrunner Hybrid BH test

Post by saxman »

I used the Bloodrunner 3 blade hybrid broadhead last season unsucsesfuly on a hog but was none the less impressed by it.
Sorry about the blurry pic.

I saw that they have a new 2 blade version with a 1 1/8th" closed and 2 1/16" open so I ordered a pack.

They came a couple days ago so I put them on for a test today.
I quick fletched 3 shafts last night for the testing

Image

First I shot the field point into the bag target and sighted in for 20 yards then switched to the block for testing shots.
POA on all shots (except for the last shot) was the top left dot.
First shot in the block with field point.

Image

Then I put a 2 blde on,POI is 8-10" to the right

Image

I just knew I had pulled the shot by the POI but it felt clean to me so I tested again, same result and again, same result
Then I decide to try the 3 blade bloodrunner
That's it right below and to the right of the FP shot,I aimed a little right so I wouldn't mess up my freshly fletched shaft.

Image

I grabbed a factory fletched shaft and put a 2 blade on it.
I aimed at the bottom left dot on the block

Image

The arrow flew at least 6-8" to the left this time and is as yet unrecovered.
I don't know if they are opening in flight or what but I am not impressed so far with the 2 blade.
The 3 blade however hit's right there with FP's

Interesting!
I have no idea why they would be so far off when the 3-blade flies so well.
Arrow-Dynamics I guess.

By chance have to tried shooting the 3 bladed head thru some shoot thru mesh? I don't think the mesh would cause it to open but it just may. Or it may cause the P.O.I. to change.
I've been using Slick Tricks with great success and have not one negative thing to say about them. But....... the 3 blade head your testing has some real merit for use on larger critters, :)

I did shoot the 3 blade through mesh last season when I shot the hog. While the arrow hit where I was aiming I think the mesh caused the head to open and caused some drag.
I contacted NAP and they did not recomend shooting through mesh so I dont use mesh anymore.I really like the 3 blade but have yet to shoot a deer with it.It is 1 1/8" closed and 1 1/2" open.I'll test the 2 blades again and then send them on to another member to test out.

I have always read good things about the Tricks but have never shot any.

I have a pkg of the two blade blood runners and it says "not for use with most crossbows" on the pack. Maybe this would explain your poi.

Sax,
Thanks for taking the time to share your results. I have heard some good things about the 3 Blade Bloodrunner from some vertical bow hunters. I thought about making a switch from my G5's, but wondered how they would do in a crossbow. Good luck and glad to hear your are doing well.
