need input/opinions

Post by longtrack »

Hello everyone
I'm new at the crossbow world and after a bit of research have decided to purchase the Vortex. Now after shopping around , this one dealer is steering me away from the Right Stuff scope package saying that I should go with the lumizone scope instead of the varizone and that the scope mount and rings are garbage. He wants to sell me leopol rings. His pricing is about 200$ more than other retailers but he says I'm better off with the upgraded equipment.

Any thoughts on this? The packages supplied by Excalibur aren't up to snuff?

I have never had a problem with the Vari-Zones or any of the stuff that comes with the package. I may have tweaked or swapped some items to my taste but certainly not because the original items were junk. You don't have to worry about quality with Excalibur stuff.

Welcome to the forum!!! I have 2 Lumizone scopes with the Excal rings and base. Also have a Varizone with the Excal setup. I see nothing wrong with any of my Excal setups. The Lumizone is a bit nicer with the illuminated reticle and the 40 mm obj lens, but both are good scopes. Myself...I think the Lumizone is worth the extra $40 to upgrade. You could buy the bow with the Lite stuff scope package and upgrade the scope for the extra $40. I don't think its necessary to go with Leupold rings.

Some of the items hes trying to sell you are worth it, IMHO. But not neccessary right away. Build up to it if money is an issue. You likely will find that you will be more than happy with the stock rings and varizone.

If it's not a money issue you can't go wrong with either pick the scope you like best. If your on a budget the Package is quality and work's great. I have a varizone on my Vortex and like it a lot. Might go to lumizone someday might not...I'm sure if you decide to go Lumizone, later you'll have no problem selling the varizone. Better yet pick up another Excal to put it on. :D

Agreed, the Lumi is nicer for low light conditions. Crossbow ring don't take much recoil so the rings that come with the package are good. Personally, I prefer Millets because they are windage adjustable. I ran into one bow whose base wasn't in tune with the barrel and they came in handy to center the reticule.
BTW be sure to use (BLUE) LocTite on the base screws to keep it from loosening.

If money isn't an issue, then I would upgrade. The solid steel rings are probably worth the money. Otherwise, go with the Right Stuff and enjoy.

OK thanks everyone..much appreciated..I think I'll probly go with the standard Right Stuff and buy the lumizone separetly. 2 1/2 months of deer archery season here in Northern Ontario compared to 2 weeks gun season. The xtra time spent in the bush will be nice!!!

I am sure that a lot of folks have had good luck with their varizone scopes but I am on my third scope, the first one fogged up on the inside real bad and the dealer swapped that one out for me and then it would not hold zero the next season so I am now on my third varizone scope and if it goes south I won't get another one, and no neither of these scopes were dropped or abused in any way. I have posted before asking if anyone knows who makes these scopes for excalibur but nobody seems to know
