survived another round of torture today (trip to dentist)

Post by wabi »

Ok,
I'll admit I've been a bit lax about dental care. I lost my insurance when I got divorced back in the 90s, and I hadn't been to the dentist for over 10 years.

I thought the "root scaling" (cleaning below the gum line) was pretty uncomfortable and the one cavity I needed filled would be an easy procedure.

Wrong again!

The dentist didn't bother to explain to me the cavity was in a molar from a position between the molars, and they would have to clamp my mouth open and pry the teeth apart while they worked on it.

Looks like my Vicodin bottle will go down another pill or two from this trip. :(

The good news is that it's all over until the next cleaning, and that will be just a conventional cleaning. :D

You dont think about your teeth much until theres a problem. This past friday my 7 year old went to the hospital from an abscesed tooth, the infection spread to his blood. The poor kid was swollen up pretty bad and they were worried about it spreading to his brain! The worst part is that it was a tooth the dentist repaired previously. Off to see him (dentist) again tomorrow

Same old story, same sad song! :P

We all sing the "dental blues" every so often, Wabi!

I had a crown fall off early this year.

$1500 for a new cap. :?

It was only three years old, and cost $2000 in the first place.

Those things should have warranties on them. :(

What really bites is to have a new crown put on and then....they have to drill into the crown to do the root canal! So...why didn't they do that when they already had everything cut down for the crown :?: Would have been a no brainer in my mind!!! Plus they charge you half the cost of the new crown to drill into it. I'm starting think that dentists plan these things

Wait until you hear you need peridontal gum flap surgery from not flossing everyday like i got! They cut the gum, flip it up and scrape under it to clean out the bacteria then stich it back.I needed my whole mouth done.My teeth were loose for 1 month and had to eat eggs, pudding, spagettios until they tightened back up.I now brush and floss daily.
