First Archery Buck

Post by excalhunterforever »

I received my new Excalibur Crossbow 2 weeks ago and just started hunting with it the the last few days in Utah. This 3x4 mule deer buck came up behind me at 20 Yards, so I had to take it with one hand and no rest while turned to the side. I still can't believe I made that shot. The buck only ran 72 yards before crashing, Excalibur is the best.

Thanks everyone and I will hunt with the Excalibur again or for the rest of my life i should say. I love it, the speed, accuracy and quality make it my favorite hunting weapon I have ever used.

Also just to add some more detail to when i was talking about shooting with one hand. I was in a ground blind by some trees while i was watching a field with a game trail. It was 95 that day so I had all the windows open and my shooting rest facing one window. Two bucks came up behind me and would not look away for more than a second. So I froze waiting to see where they would go. I knew if I moved my wheelchair to be able to turn and face them and shoot with two hands they would run. The first buck was small and did not stay long, but the bigger buck stopped. I thought it's now or never and reached for the bow, turned my shoulders as much as I can placed the butt of the stock on my chest put the cross hairs on his body and pulled the trigger. I'm a paraplegic so I would fall over trying to hold the stock with two hands while turned like that, that's why I had to shoot with one hand. I also did not get great placement on his body because of this, but he was still not gut shot and crashed in just a few minutes. It was not skill by any means, just plane luck. I really thought i missed too, but the bolt was caked in dry Utah dirt and smelled like deer so I knew he was hit. That's what makes hunting so fun though you never know what will happen.
