deer and bear

Post by Shotnbeer »

This was taken in Warren County, PA. The deer was struck by a car and was found by the bear. The bear won. There is some questioning as to why the person taking the pictures didn't dispatch the deer first. I love these ethical questions. What would you have done?

With all due respect, there is no ethical question here. The Bear was being a Bear, doing what bears do, and the deer had the misfortune of having an injury, low be it caused by a car, that allowed him to become vulnerable to the bear. It happens a thousand times a day all over the world.
This was not any form of cruely, it was nature playing out as it has since God put us all here.

I'd of put a bullet in the bucks brain. I figure it's natures way, me happening by and carrying.

I don't know of any state or province where it would be legal. What happens unofficially is another story.

Momma always said . . .Son, never bother a bear when its eating. Best advice she ever gave me.

Ive always said that what we hunters do is way more humane than what a predator would do to prey. If I had a gun on me I would put the buck down in a hurry. I only hope the deer is paralized and cant feel the bear munchng on its arse

Guys,
I would have put the deer down as well if given the opportunity. My point was simply that because the photographer chose to do nothing, probably because he or she couldn't, there should be no question of ethics here.

Either that deer had been there awhile or the bear was right behind him when he got hit since the deer is still alive when the bear finds him. Sometimes the Highway Patrol will dispatch a wounded wild animal if one is found at the crash site...Yeah someone should go ahead and kill the deer instead of letting him get eaten alive since bears normally kill their game before eating.

Might sound harsh to say this, but I'm sure the deer wasn't alive for too much longer..... :?
