Mounting Video camera on bow ??

Post by suzyandal »

Has anyone ever mounted a small video camera directly on the crossbow ??
I thought it would be neat to tape my hunts and mounting directly on the bow eliminates trying to aim the camera separately.
Any ideas ??
Thx,Al

I have never tried it but I would be concerned that the shock of the Xbow being fired may damage the video camera?

I have done it on my vert compound bow and the vibration of the shot blures the camera at the must important time and you have to train your self to keep the bow pointing at the target animal as it runs off, sounds easy but it is harder than you think oh yea keep the camera on wide angle, and the lens cover off, and do not forget to turn it on.
I have made all these mistakes in the heat of the moment

Roscoby riser cam. I assume that you are using a scope with your set up? Get the Excalibur range finder mount and attach it to the scope, then attach the riser cam to the mount.

I have done it and it works pretty . If you want a still shot of the arrow going in it takes about a minimum of a twenty yard shot for the image to stabilize from the recoil. But that is only about two tenths of a second worth of footage. I used the Excal range finder mount and then made up a piece of metal to put the Velcro on and then screw the plate to the bottom of the camera. It works great and I enjoy doing it. I have a Sony Handy Cam mounted on my Bow.

Here is a buck I caught on tape. The video is short and my camera skills are not to be desired. If you turn the volume up you can hear the crunch of the leaves as he walks up, and then after he runs you can hear the crash.

Here is the still from the camer that is the first clear image, the arrow has already went in, but you can see the fur is tore up and the buck has no clue what is inside him. One of my favorite pics.

Looks great!
If I needed to mount a video camera that is exactly how I would do it as well.
