First Black Powder

Post by ecoaster »

Decided to move away from a shotgun for the controlled hunt and got myself a muzzle loader. It's the Thompson Center Triumph Bone Collector - 50 cal. They have them in camo, but I liked the grey/black better.

I took it out to the range and man you can sure hear that bullet smack the target. I wouldn't want to be a deer at the recieving end of that hunk of lead. I'm using the Hornady 50 cal bullets that don't require the plastic jacket. It's supposed to reduce the fouling of the barrel a bit.

The recoil supression feature of this gun are amazing. Very little felt recoil even with the maximum recommended powder loads.

Now all I need is to get drawn for the hunt :D .

Nice!
How's accuracy with those bullets?
I still love the Barnes Expander MZ for deer hunting. All the deer I've shot with them have dropped in their tracks. They can be a pain to load in some barrels, but I've never owned a muzzleloader they weren't accurate in.

Not sure of the range. The rifle range I was at is 100yds. I was shooting the fibre optic sights at the time. I just recieved the scope base and mount last week, so I haven't dialed it in yet.

I know it's a bit pricey but you might try some Blackhorn 209 powder. Tyler and I both shoot CVAs and that blackhorn is awesome unless you enjoy cleaning your ML a lot. Anyhow, that is one sweet looking gun. Let us know when you get a load worked up for it  .
God Bless !!!!!!!!!

I have shot their early models a few years back. Was darn impressed with the fit and finish. Accurate as the guy behind it.

We made up a cubic foot of Jello. Sure gives you the idea of the forces generated.

Got to shot a BP .357. Now that was fun.

I will give the Blackhorn 209 a try. For now I am using IMR White Hots. This is the first gun I have ever bought without actually putting my hands on it to get a feel for it. I was very pleased when I took it out of the box and put it to my shoulder. It's not hard to tell that it comes from a quality manufacturer.

Great looking muzzle loader & good luck with the draw as well!

Happy hunting. :)
