big doe down

Post by gogo »

Let me start this story by telling everyone I have never shot a doe in my life and never shot a deer with my phoenix, all my hunting was done in NY state with shotgun. Yesterday morning I had about a dozen doe come around my tree stand, could have shot at least 5 of them but chose not to. At about 11 am my son and I took a break for a couple of hours, while on this break he talked me into shooting the next decent doe that I seen. In the afternoon a big doe and a smaller one came near my stand. The big doe came within 7 yeads of my stand but her vitals were behind a big tree. I locked my crosshairs on her shoulder but needed her to move at least one foot for the heart lung shot. She looked up and we were eye to eye, when she decided to bolt I fired and got a complete pass through. It took 50 yds of hard blood trailing to find her in the thickest bush you can imagine. We gave the doe to the farmer who's land we hunt, he is a happy camper now. Thats the story of my fist crossbow deer and first doe ever.

Good thinking feeding the property owner first. :D What broadhead did you use?
