I got one with my muzzleloader

Post by longshot »

A good friend of ours at the club and I worked an entire day to clear some shooting lanes for dad and I. We set up our ground blind and sat in it for the first time yesterday. There were deer in the corn when me, dad and my sister got to blind but dad said that if we were quiet they would probably come back. We were settled in and helping my sister with her homework when dad told us not to move cause there was a deer about 20 yards away coming to the lane. It was a doe and she came out and walked right up to the blind! I couldn't believe it. The bad news is that when I pulled the trigger the gun went pop then boom. Dad said that it was a hang fire and I missed  . I was reloading when 6 more does came out to the corn at 100 yards. I couldn't find my primers   so dad gave me his gun and I mowed her down at 100 yards. We didn't have the camera with us so I don't have a picture but Brianna is hooked and wanted to play hookie and go back because mom is at a conference and it's just the three of us   . That's a dangerous combination isn't it    . Well, gotta go to school  .

Hey Longshot,

Nice shooting! Was that with a scoped inline that you used to shoot the deer? I'll sometimes hunt with my side lock muzzle loader but with open sights and these 66 year old eyes would make 100 yard shot my outside limit.

Now go get one with a crossbow!

Take care...

Great tale of your hunt. Way to go! :)

I'm tellin ya folks, he's a natural born killa   . Seriously, you guys should have seen the look on his face when his ML primer popped but thank God through continued hunter education classes, he had the mind set to keep the gun pointed in a safe direction in case of a delayed ignition (which did occur). After it was over, he sat there poutiing and wondering what went wrong and as I explained that it probably due to all the wet weather that we have had lately, he should have put a fresh powder charge in her after Saturday like I did. But then again, I take full responsibility for not recommening that he reload as I had already done. Anyhow, I was picking on him as he was reloading but Brianna broke that up when she saw the other deer come into the path. One of which Tyler shot with my ML. It was a great hunt with both of my kids and Brianna is showing some real interest in hunting now and wants a small calibur rifle this season. If anyone has a single barrel .243 that they would part with, PLEASE let me know. I already have a red dot shop for it. OH, thank you guys and gals for accepting him as part of the group  .
God Bless !!!!!!!!!
