Got another one!

Post by wabi »

Pulled my game cam card today and had a new buck show up. Not much on antlers, but he'd be hard for me to pass up.

Decided to set in the stand this evening and guess who showed up!!!!!!!!
He didn't come in the the feeder but 3 bucks came out into the small field next to the food plot just after I got in the stand. (got a late start, it was 6:00PM when I got there)
They grazed, then would spar for a few minutes, then finally wandered over to the big oak at the corner of the food plot and munched acorns for several minutes. All three moved into the food plot, munched chicory, had a couple sparring matches, and finally moved into bow range.
I watched the biggest one (the 8 point) through my scope and he gave me a perfect broadside, leg forward pose. The Phoenix did it again! Dang safety goes off and my finger squeezed the trigger without me even thinking about it.

Wac'Em Exit broadhead on a 2215 shaft fletched with 2" Blazers. Saw the arrow hit perfectly and he took off for the woods. Heard him go down, finished my cigar (yep, had one lit the whole time), climbed down and went and got the landowner's tractor.
Drove it to the food plot, got down and found the blood trail and took off trailing. Didn't take long to find him, he only went about 25 yards. :D

The exit wound was much smaller than Ive had in the past with those broadheads, but I'm not complaining with as short a distance as he traveled after the hit. (you can see it in the second pic where it cut through the front leg) Didn't find the arrow tonight (it was getting dark, and with the warm weather I was rushing to get him out, tagged, and in the cooler), but I'll look for it tomorrow.

BTW - He was nice enough to go down where all I had to do was drag him downhill 10' to a tractor road. I love hunting where it's easy to get 'em out!

I'm going to give most of the meat to the landowner's mom. She told me she was out of deer meat and the grandkids love it, so what else can I do?
I will keep those tough old backstraps, though. We've eaten all the jerky I made from the backstraps of the first deer a couple weeks ago.

Congrat's.

Ohio sounds like a nice place to visit some day!!
A touch of frost has heightened your awareness and your heart steadily beats in anticipation. Your senses are suddenly alert to the movement on the forest floor and you realize that the moment of truth is at hand.

Congrats on a fine looking Buck!

But is that anyway to treat guest to your food plot? :P
Now therefore take, I pray thee, thy weapons, thy quiver and thy bow, and go out to the field, and take me some venison; And make me savoury meat, such as I love, and bring it to me, that I may eat; that my soul may bless thee before I die. Gen 27:3-4
