Todays Hunt

Post by Farmer »

Have only had the chance to be out in my stands 4 times so far this season for a couple hours at a time. Headed out this am and dozed off in my stand and woke up around 7:45am to a nice sized fawn near my stand. Passed on shooting it and just enjoyed watching it graze in the corn stubble. A few minutes pass as I watch the fawn and suddenly mommy shows up. She is a very good size doe but out about 35 yards ( that is right at my self imposed limit ) quartering towards me a bit as well. Ah heck its early yet so I let them graze and they slowly move up the head land of the field feeding as they go along.

I am enjoying the peace and quiet of sitting on stand when a bit of movement to my left catches my eye. What the heck ??! A coyote, and its heading right for a small game trail along the fence line. Make a quick squirrel sound , no notice. 3 more feet and its going to be gone in the fence row. I whistle . The coyote stops and quarters toward me , 20 yards . Whack , the coyote drops in it tracks. Howls a little bit then then bites at my arrow stuck in the ground next to it. It ruined the 2216 but the 100 grain Rocket Sidewinder really hung a a number on that coyote.

Forgot my camera at home. I would have loved to get a shot( picture ) of the coyote from my stand. Here is a picture of Her .

Great shot, nice kill. I may have killed one this morning while going hunting, foggy as hell and i cliped him with the SUV, but i just kept going.
