Are ya scared

Post by M&M »

As I was walking to my stand in the early morning this weekend and you know its well before sunrise and dark. Well ya just hear all kind of sounds that you just can't figure out what the heck it is, and I have to wonder about people that live where there are bears and mountain lions and critters that may like the taste of man. Do ya get a little scared walking to your stand in the morning our out of the woods at night! I live in ohio so we don't have those beasts to worry about but some things do get your attention

My Uncle & Aunt claim to have seen a pair of very large mountian lions on the farm in Virginia. Black bears are in the area, but, we have yet to see them on the property.

I hunt from the ground. When I hear something coming down the woods behind me, it's getting harder and harder to sit perfectly still.
I'd rather wear out than rust out.
Perception trumps intention.

I don't worry about walking in he woods in the dark. It's walking to the store around the corner that scares me more than anything else. Those two legged creatures are more dangerous than the four legged ones

It is not just the critters you mention that can do you harm. Every few years or so you'll read about a hunter getting hurt and in one case I can remember killed by a buck. On public land perhaps much more than private land you might also run into trouble with a biped.

Though from CT I mostly hunt with family in PA so I'm able to legally go out with a hand gun even though bow hunting.

Take care...

I've had a great horned owl let loose at just the right time. Makes the fuzz on the top of my paled head stand on end.

YES, I AM SCARED!
Over the years I have just had way too many close calls. Situations where the only reason I got away unscathed was purely due to luck. That really, really worries me. I think about everytime I go out deer hunting. Particularly in the dark, prior to morning hunts; that's when most of my run-ins have occurred. I just know that sooner or later I'm going to have yet another confrontation with one of these beasts, and its not going to turn out well for me. Just looking into those dark eyes gives me the creeps!.........

Walking out in the dark on a tractor path one night and kicked a cat with my foot (the landowner has several cats) so I turned my light on.
Wrong type cat to be kicking!

Don't have any man eaters around these parts but I too fear the skunk.
On several occassions I've caught a whiff of one but never see 'em!!

I usually feel safe there, but this evening a squirrel decided to set right above my umbrella I have over the stand. Had to listen to cuttings bounce off the umbrella and every time the noise stopped I had to hope I didn't get company in the stand with me.

I think that in the woods most things are more scared of us than we are of them. :)
