Where are all the shotgunners?

Post by Isis »

It was a nice morning, so the wife and I decided to go for a drive to see all the shotgun boys having fun this morning.
We drove up to the Conestoga lake area (MNU80) and drove all around.
Saw a couple of trucks parked but nothing like usual on opening day.
Went to one spot where I knew a guy had a stand. 3 of them were at the road when we got there. They were just getting ready to look for a buck one had shot.
After we drove all over and only saw three more guys by a truck.
We didn't see anybody pushing bushes, usually there is orange all over the place across the fields at the edges of bushes.
I have a shotgun permit, but didn't hunt. I have shot 2 bucks in 3 outings with the Exomag. One a button, and the other a 7 pointer.
Both from the ground, one about 8yds the other about 10yds. Both dropped on the spot.
The first one I hadn't been in my spot 10mins.
So I have been really lucky this year. I think my average is 1 deer every 20 hunts.
Usually end up making tag soup.
I will probably get out Fri & Sat when my buddy Vern gets back from the rifle hunt.
