God and luck was with me

Post by mailman1 »

I had a 5 pointer come in around 30 yds. I am in a ground blind. I had 1 shooting lane he came into. I slowly put the phoenix up and waited. He came into the lane, I made a grunt noise, he stopped and I let the bolt go. About 5 ft before the impact, the bolt deflected to the left and down. He jumped and started running back down hill, just using his front legs. He was dragging both rear legs. My heart sunk because I had a bad hit. I let him sit for a hour and then went to look at the impact area. Found the bolt, no blood and top 4 in. had snapped off. I started tracking him and could not believe the blood trail he was leaving. Found him about 200 yards. When I looked for where I hit him, I saw the bolt had gone threw the femoral artery in 1 leg and cut the tendon in the other. He bled out quick because there was hardly any blood in the cavity and you couldn't miss the blood trail. God and luck were with me on this one. Just glad it didn't go to waste. When I looked thru the scope, I could not see any branch' s, it looked like a perfect shot.

I'll take God and luck over skill and experience anytime :D

I had a deflection this year as well. Didn't see the limb through the scope. Gotta remember that the arrow does not fly in a straight line even at close range! Then you have to factor in the gap between the arrow on the rail and your scope....how do we ever kill Deer with these things??? :P
Now therefore take, I pray thee, thy weapons, thy quiver and thy bow, and go out to the field, and take me some venison; And make me savoury meat, such as I love, and bring it to me, that I may eat; that my soul may bless thee before I die. Gen 27:3-4
