Another one
My first season hunting is turning out to be pretty good. I got my second kill this morning. It must be beginners luck or something as it certainly hasn’t been a lot of skill on my part.
Every morning I try to get a couple hours of hunting in before I have to get on with my days work. This morning I went out and just outside my front door there was a herd of about seven does and a bigger one with obvious gland patches on his rear legs. He looked like he should be a buck but no antlers. I put an arrow in place and looked a bit closer. He wasn’t really that big but it is clear that this guy has had a few run ins or something as his antlers were broken clean off. Only about an inch or two left on each side but he had the ladies so he must have won whatever it was that broke his rack. Sort of wonder what the other guy looks like.
He just looked at me and I looked at him. We were only about 25 feet apart. He gave me a “You want a piece of me?” look and stamped the ground with his front leg. If he was going to give me a challenge then say hello to my little friend. 25 feet did not give him much time when my arrow was going over 300 fps. He and the herd started to move but he went down in about 25 yards, just off my driveway and right in front of my tractor. That was convenient.
For the stats, I got him with an Exocet 200 with factory Dacron string and a Firebolt tipped with a 125 gr G5 Montec. By the way, this is the second kill with that particular Firebolt. It’s cleaned up, got a new tip and ready for #3.
Sorry no photos from the field as it was starting to rain and I wanted to get this guy cleaned and hung before I got really dumped on.

Re: Another one
Evaughn, I’m on one of the small islands between Vancouver and Victoria. All we have here are blacktail. The photo below was taken a while back but is a good example. The island deer are sort of small compared to the photos of the hogs I have seen on the forum. Boned out all we got from the one I got a couple weeks ago was about 30 pounds. The one today will probably yield about 40-50 pounds
