I'm glad that we decided to go.

Post by raydaughety »

Tyler and I went to the hunting club yesterday to enjoy the sound of the dogs running. We chose a secluded area but close enough to the hunt that we could drive the truck in. We were leaning against the base of an old hickory tree when we heard the dogs coming from way off. We had plenty of time to get ready so I reached in my pocket and pulled out my two-way radio just in time to turn it on and hear my cousin say " they're running a buck and he's probably looking BIG-T (Tyler) . I told him that we were on the oak ridge and that the hounds were coming to us.

It wasn't long before the old dogs were real close, close enough that we should have already seen the buck. About that time, I heard something to my right and caught a glimpse of the buck. If continued on his present route, he would be right on top of us within seconds. I told Tyler to get ready. All of a sudden the big 6 pointer was running right at us, he would pass on Tyler's side. "Get em' get em'" I whispered to Tyler. One shot from his Franchi 12 ga. with 00 buckshot put the buck down at only 15 yards.

You talking about excited???? Tyler has killed a deer or two in front of the hounds but not the way that this hunt played out. There's something about hearing the hounds coming right to and you "know" that they are running a buck that will put a man's adrenaline in overdrive :D .

Tyler and I have had nothing but awesome hunts from day one and this is just another hunt that will go down in the books as one to remember. It was special to me if you know what I mean.

Oh, almost forgot, late in the afternoon, the dogs jumped a bunch of does and one came a little to close to my Winchester SuperX3  Both deer are hanging in the cooler and will get to the freezer later in the week :D

My only regret is that I left the camera at home so we had to clean them at the club while we had plenty of help. Sorry, no pics this time :( .
God Bless !!!!!!!!!

The guys that we hunt with are threatening to have the horseshoe surgically removed  . Many have offered to let Tyler ride with them every Saturday. I told them last night that I would begin accepting bids at 4:30 am next Saturday. We have had quite a year but it's not all about killing, we love the time that we spend together  .
God Bless !!!!!!!!!

Actually we are getting away from the larger walkers and have been trying some walker/beagle mix. These dogs handle really well and are not to fast like those long legged walkers. Make no mistake, they'll run one at a pretty good clip but once the deer gets some distance on the dogs he'll slow down and try to sneak out using one of his escape routes. Preferably one that Tyler isn't sitting on  .
