Unhappy New Years day

Post by one shot scott »

No not because of alcohol, or any other substance abuse, but because Deer season has ended  Its a very sad day for me because now the 9 month wait till it arrives again begins. I will greatly miss the veiw of my treestands overlooking my tiny peice of "heaven". The foggy mornings, the anticipation of what might come out at any second. The companionship of hunting with a buddy. The stories. Something about deer hunting I love more than any other type of hunting. Turkey is fun but it doesnt wake me up quite like those deer do. Ice fishing, bunny hunting and the like are more time fillers than anything else. Just something to keep my mind busy till the next season comes. Goodby 2010. Come on 2011!

It is a sad day but aleast there is always the anticipation of the coming season . :)
I have said it before but . It is a sad and empty life when you have nothing to look forward to by getting up early . At some point of the year . :)
I almost forgot . HAPPY NEW YEAR !!!!!!

One Shot, my sentiments exactly. The pull, the drive, the love of deer hunting is for me second to no other outdoor passions. I would rather hunt deer than fish, than hunt rabbit, squirrel, duck. You name it. I haven't duck hunted in two or three years. Squirrels in about five. No grouse. Kind of sad but when you become dedicated it goes with the territory.

The challenge of deer hunting is a totally different ball game. It's often like a chess match. Trying to outsmart your quarry. Trying to anticipate the deers next move, hours or days in advance to position yourself in the right spot. Then you can up the ante and chase specific bucks. Passing on "lesser" deer, knowing that you could wind up with more tag than meat in your soup.

This year I didn't see as much of the woods as I would have liked. Less than last year. This fall may be even less with another little one on the way. With some hard work maybe Bloodtrail Ale will get off the ground and afford me the time for family and forest.

Time for a drink.
You can take the man out of the woods but you can't take the woods out of the man.

You know that you never need to wait for an invitation Chris!

Not to long ago the MNR was thinking of extending the season and in the end decided against it. Now a year or so later I think most will agree that Deer numbers APPEAR to be down in Ontario and the season remaining unchanged has been a good thing. But it still suks thats its over :?
