Strange shooting session

Post by mchurch »

I was shooting my excal equinox today and got some confusing results. I was shooting stock firebolts and 150 grain tips. I was also shooting Danny Miller arrows with 100 grain tips. The Danny Miller arrows weigh 405 grains and the firebolts and tip weigh 417 grains. I used the crankaroo on both and the lighter Miller arrows were consistently 3-4 inches lower at 30 yards. What gives?

Two different arrows with two different weight tips and FOC will result in two different POI's.

I would have thought that the lighter arrow would have hit higher?

im no expert at all so someone more knowledgeable than me may have better answer.. but im thinking the heaver arrows are holding thier
energy longer resulting in a straighter line at 30 ..even if the lighter arrow is faster out of the bow it may lose speed faster on out there.

They are the gold tips 2's with brass inserts. I think the momentum thing may be right. I was pretty surprised.

If you were to check the FOC on both arrows, chances are that the FOC on the gold tips' is greater. That would make them initially fly fairly flat at closer ranges and then experience a more pronounced drop as the range increases.

Comfy is correct. The Gold tips have a 110 gr. brass front plus a 100 gr. head.
The firebolts have an aluminum front insert and a 150 gr. head.
So the Gold tips are about 50 gr. heavier in front. approx.
FOC not even close.
