I made this stock with very few power tools. Just a circular saw, a recip saw, drill press and hand drill. Major wood removal was done with a hammer and chisel (the channel) and cabinetmakers rasps.
I layed my factory stock on the blank and traced it. I then slopped some finish on it for contrast. Then cut it out with a circular saw, using a small recip saw to finish the cuts.

I marked the channel and used a hammer and chisel to remove the wood.

I use cabinetmakers rasps to shape the stock. This rasp is aggressive and will really move the wood.

Shaping the butt.

I needed to make something to cover the grip end and butt. I decided to make plates out of some brass I had out of an old motel sign.

I had plenty of time so I decided to make them skeleton caps. It takes a little longer to fit them but they look pretty good when you're done.

Here is what my nearly finished stock looks like on the bow. I'm going to put some carving on the grip and forend and then put one last coat on it. I used Tru-Oil for the finish. Hope you liked the pics. Gary
