1/2 a Canuck

Post by Migabby »

A couple of weeks ago I was going through my GrandFather's Keepsakes and discovered a letter from him to "Who ever it may concern:" that both he and his brother where born in London, Ontario. this was a surprise. I new my Grandmother was born in Canada. Her last name was Riapel, but wow now I'm proud to say I'm Half Canadian.. How about that. No wonder I love going too Cananda amd My Excalibur.

I'm not so much Canadian as I thought. I had tO look up "gonch"
I don't think it's pronounced the way it's spelled: gotchies. Or I've been saying it wrong for the last 30+ years!!

Might be an east/west thing? We called 'em gonches out west - haven't heard it much since moving east.

Never heard em called "gonch" but we did always call em "ginch" or "gotchies as kids.
Not sure where we got it from but it was pretty common.
