Didn't get a turkey either but had fun trying.

I don't have any dates set but I do plan on sitting out for coyotes a couple times this summer.
I see fresh tracks all the time at the farm where I hunt.

Time now for bowfishing carp. Been doing well the past few days in the Bighead River. Crows are fun also this time of year. Coyotes are best hunted in the winter when food is scarce. Never have to much luck in the summer for coyote.

Going out Friday night with my son to see if we can get a yote in the sights of the new Mossberg .17 HMR rifle he got for his birthday.
Until he gets his apprentice license this summer he will just have to watch for now.

Get them close enough and you can even kill one with a slingshot :D there's better tools but a well placed shot at close range CAN do it. It's amazing what those 17 hmr's are capable of!

.243 would be better but I have talked to several guys who are having success with the .17 under 100 yds.

Would you use a .222 on moose?

I highly suggest going with the .243 over the .17 HMR for coyotes. They may be varmits but they deserve to be dropped with limited suffering. I own both of these calibers and have taken one coyote with the .17 at 40 yards. It dropped right on the spot but as it was approaching to my call I was cursing the whole time for not having a bigger rifle.

If you do decide to go .243 and dont mind a little practice you will be able to hammer the call shy dogs that hang up at 400 plus yards.

Take a look at a .204 ruger. A 17 is to light for yote's a 204 is pushing it. Many calibur's to choose from in between 17 hmr and 243. a versatile one is the 243 because it can double as a nice deer gun if you make it north a bit.
