OT - help ID spam utensil

Post by wabi »

My wife hit the yard sales today and found an assortment of copper spam utensils.
Among the set was this handy item no spam should be without,
now if I just knew what we really have.

Image
About 3" diameter and 2" deep.
Anyone have any idea what use it was designed for?

Looks like a 'final reduction' pan to me. When making a sauce, such as a balsamic or port reduction, one needs to move the reduction they are working on to a smaller pan in order to not burn it by distributing it on a larger surface in a larger pan.

...not that I'd know anything about gourmet cooking.

I don't believe it's anything for a special purpose. It's just a copper pot with a lid designed so you can drain the liquid off using only one hand instead of having to hold a lid separately.

This is a Sterno holder. It is used with a chafing dish, food warmer, and antique coffee pots. My wife has every horizontal surface in our house covered with these coffee pots.

I knew it would be useful!
It would be perfect for simmering dehydrated meals when camping.
