Tennessee Hog Hunting

Post by Sopchoppy »

I'm posting this just to let y'all know what one state is doing to control the rampant spread of wild hogs. As of 8/8/2011, there is NO "sport hunting" of hogs. TWRA's thinking is that is what has caused the spread of the hogs. Seems they think sport hunters are transporting hogs to their area so as to have some hogs to hunt. ????? The only folks who can kill hogs are landowners who can designate 10 people to help them irradicate their hog problem. They can shoot hogs at night, over bait, or what ever means necessary. Any deer, turkey, or whatever kind of hunter CANNOT shoot a hog. So you must have a landowner friend who will invite you to shoot hogs. I have 2 friends who operate hunting lodges with exotics and hogs. They both say this will put them out of business!!! One side note; the 80,000 acre Catoosa WMA has been closed to all traffic, hikers, hunters, sight-seers, pic-nickers because "vandals upset with the new hog hunting regulation" are putting out nails, spikes, and nail boards that has resulted in numerous TWRA vehicles getting flat tires. These nuts who are protesting in this manner have crapped in their own mess gear! Catoosa may not be reopened by the start of hunting season!

I like that in a way. . .gives the hunters an opportunity to develop a relationship with a landowner in need to shooting some hogs. You get a better chance of getting permission to "hunt" the property.

I know the negatives . . .just trying to see the glass half full.
I'd rather wear out than rust out.
Perception trumps intention.

Here in north carolina they have opened the floodgates on hog hunting. As of oct 1st there will no longer be any recognized boar population if it looks like a hog it is a feral hog and is a target, no closed season and no limits. this is due to new law about swine in transport that also states if yer hauling a pig it better either be dead or vet certified. And if you catch one in a trap it is Illegal to release it, you must kill it.

there were a few counties that had recognized russian boar population but i guess the blood line is so diluted they no longer consider them boars.

the following is from the latest regs digest

WILD BOAR SEASONS
Daily limit 1; Possession limit 1; Season limit 2
In the following counties: Cherokee, Clay, Graham, Jackson,
Macon, Swain
Sept. 12, 2011 – Sept. 30, 2011
In the other 94 counties of the state, feral hogs are not considered
to be wild boars. On Oct. 1, 2011, state law will no longer
recognize wild boar. Therefore all wild swine (hogs) in the state,
including those in the six western most counties, will be feral
swine. After Sept. 30, 2011, feral swine will have no closed
season, no bag limits and are subject to the manner of taking
restrictions listed on pages 42 and 43. See page 62 for additional
restrictions for taking feral swine (hogs) on game lands.

They just screwed themselves!!!
If there are a number of hogs on the property...no land owner and his ten "friends" are going to control the population. Contrary to popular belief hogs are far from stupid! They will pattern you before you pattern them.
Wonder how much it will cost you to be on the "friend list"?

Hogs produce faster than rabbit's, it won't be long and the farmers will have real prob's with these pigs, we'll see in time, think about the yotes coming to your neighborhood when there weren't any before and they don't breed like those pigs, good thing.
