I like to have mine up 6-8 weeks before the opener but that doesn't always happen so sometimes you just have to get them up when you can. I've been working 7 days a week for awhile now and still don't have mine up yet this year. Probably not for another week and a half till I go on midnights and then I'll get them up. Might not be optimal but it's what I have to work with. Last year I had them up early but moved one mid season to a better location and killed a buck from that stand the very same day. If you get them up late or even during the season just try to disturb and change the area as little as possible. Lots of guys use portables and climbers and go in and set them up and take deer from them the same day. :) Good luck. Jim

I've moved a stand during the season in the
morning and had deer there in the evening

Dosen't always work like that, maybe just lucky

Like Mr. K said try not to disturb the area too much.

A late tree stand is better than no tree stand but nothing better than killing a deer from the ground ether.

Got to agreed that killing from the ground close up and personal is heart racing pleasure. I can not stand not being able to see a distance though.
A STORY. Once while hunting in ganary grass with clumps of willows here and there I set up in a willow clump next to a trail. Started getting dark and I heard a deer coming but by the time it got to me it was to dark. That deer was a BUCK and his rack brushed the limbs on the willow patch I was in. Talk about heart thumping. Damn near died.  Always told the wife if I die in the woods you know I died happy. Do not mourn for me.
Sorry, I usually use ladder stands for perminate spots. Like to set them and forget them till its time. Use a millenium hang on for sneaking in and setting up. For the ladder stand I would get it in as soon as possible but in at any time is better than none. Good Luck! :)

I would guess setting up a ladder stand wouldn't be much more (if as much) noticeable to the deer than setting up a ground blind.
I leave my #1 ladder stand in place year - round, and if I move one of my others I usually let the location "cool down" for a couple days before I use the stand. Not sure it would really be necessary, though.
If the ladder is camo or non-reflective coated it shouldn't draw any attention.
