First kill with my Vortex

Post by billsmax »

Bought my Vortex last bow season but didn't get a shot until yesterday. I was in a ladder stand overlooking a food plot when about 5:30PM I saw movement in the brush to the right of the food plot. It looked like a fox roaming about in the brush but angling toward me. When it got closer, I realized it was a small coyote and was now about 30 yd in front of me. As I took my Vortex from the cedar limb it was hanging on and stood up, the bow nicked a dead cedar limb and I was busted. He started running down a logging road to my right but as I got the scope on him, I made squeaking sound and he stopped, turned broadside and looked back at me. I shot but the arrow is so fast that in low light I can't follow it. I saw it hit the road bed but it looked like I had shot under him. When I went into the woods looking for my arrow later, I found it stuck in a tree but it had blood on it. I had seen no blood on the road or where the coyote entered the woods. I walked back into the woods about 20 yd and there lay my little male coyote. Way to go Vortex, perfect chest shot at 41yds. When I say small coyote, I mean small...15lbs on our deer scales

I've been "lurking" on this forum ever since I bought my Vortex last year. Every question I've needed an answer to concerning crossbows, I've found with a search of the forum.
You guys are the best and this is the best forum I've seen. Of course you've cost me quite a bit of money also....Who knew that I would need to order the S5, Boo string and a Roll-a-chair.
Now let me cost you ground blind hunters some money. Camping World is selling a "Swivel" bag chair. Sounds like just the thing for turning to shoot in another direction without standing. Oh, that's cost me even more money and so far all I've gotten out of all that expense is one little coyote and lots of fun!

Sounds like a good shot! Sorry about the ground shrinkage, but who cares. I killed a small one once and it smelled bad like it was sick.
