Georgia flat top down
For the past five years I have hunted an oak flat using a ground blind on the edge of it. I have taken several from the flat in past seasons but this year, the deer have me pegged and were not falling for it. I have had four does pick me off before I could get a shot at them so far this season. I have played with the idea of getting permission of the landowner whose property I hunt to put up a tree stand on that oak flat down below his house for a couple of years now and after being blown by the does this season I just couldn’t stand it no longer.
Wednesday I finally got tired of the deer getting the better of me and went to the landowner and secured permission to put up my old man hang on stand and ladder in the flat next to some apple trees. Thursday I went in the rain and put the stand up hoping the rain would wash away any scent I had left while putting up the stand and I left it alone till this morning.
About 10:30 a good sized doe came slipping in from the woods lot and very casually walked to ward my tree stand. At 25 yards she stopped and looked dead at my ground blind I had been using to see if I was there. She never had a clue about the tree stand until my arrow zipped through both shoulders and buried up in the ground behind her. She only made it about 30 yards before pilling up. I’m going back this afternoon to see if another one will fall for the same trick.
