week two - deer two

Post by wabi »

Decided I'd take an adult doe if the opportunity presented itself, and it did this evening. She gave me a perfect broadside pose at 18-19 yards and I launched a 2215 tipped with a Wac'Em Exit broadhead from the Phoenix.
Phoned the landowner (he always helps track, dress, and get 'em out when he's home) and waited until he brought the tractor with the carrier to take up the trail. By then it was too dark to see without light, but luckily we picked up good blood where she exited the food plot and the trail was only 20 yards or so into the woods.
Got the temporary tag on her, field dressed her, and he was able to back the tractor right up to her. :D
Only pics I got were when we got her back to my truck, but I promised the landowner I'd post one with him in it and make him famous.

She's in the processor's cooler now and I'll have to decide what cuts I want tomorrow and tell him while I'm working on the plumbing for his new bathroom. Seems like he always needs a small job done about this time of year and I always manage to get a few deer for him to cut up. Makes payment simple.

Way 2 go.

I hope you take care of that land-owner as well. He is one awsome guy to help you like that.

Thanks for all the replies! :D
Now I'll have a fair amount of meat on hand, so I think I'll concentrate on trying to get a buck. Never know, though - the landowner's mom likes deer meat, so I may take another doe & give her the good cuts (keeping the tough old backstraps so I can keep my jaw muscles strong).

BTW - tried some backstraps in mushroom gravy cooked in the crock pot from the first deer. Couldn't eat it with a fork!
(It just fell apart when you tried to spear a piece with the fork. )

Home made version. Some angle iron, expanded steel mesh, and a few hours cutting & welding.

Actually we're going to have to clean out the freezer before I bring her home (looks like some of my choice delicacies like frozen shad for catfish bait are going to have to go - I'll feed it to the coons  ).
I'll probably can a good bit of this one, plus make some jerky & summer sausage.

He will get some summer sausage & jerky, plus he knows he can call me any time he needs help tracking one & getting it out. And he hasn't paid labor for any plumbing repairs for years.
