Opening day doe

Post by peter p »

I took this doe on Saturday afternoon just before legal shooting time was over.
I decided to use my 18 year old XI Ultra Mag compound bow. I had it sitting for years so I replaced the string, set it up and practiced shooting throughout the summer.

I shot her at 15 yards broadside.
I found my arrow full of blood buried half way in the soft ground but the blood was a thick bright red.

I decided to leave and go home and come back later with my 2 boys.
We arrived at midnight and picked up the blood trail. It was thick but spotty but still ok to find in the bush.

We found her piled up about 80 yards from where I shot her with a liver shot.

I was using carbon arrows and 100 grain mag slick tricks.

This is my first compound bow kill.

Sorry for the garage cell phone pics but it was 3 in the morning and my camera batteries were dead.

Congratulations on that meat! That there is fine backstrap:)

As far as your bow, what is it they say? "The older the fiddle the sweeter the music." The song it sung with its new string was the finale' for that doe. I bet it felt good taking her with it :)

Now therefore take, I pray thee, thy weapons, thy quiver and thy bow, and go out to the field, and take me some venison; And make me savoury meat, such as I love, and bring it to me, that I may eat; that my soul may bless thee before I die. Gen 27:3-4

Thanks to everyone.
My son on the left is the tracker. We are not allowed to pass him while tracking but when he looses the blood trail :? dad has to step in and find it :D.

We were debating on whether to bring the dog but I wasn't sure of the hit and didn't want her chasing a wounded deer in the woods.

MarkMarine, yes it felt good taking her with it.
That was one heck of an experience and accomplishment.

Thanks
