First Crossbow Buck

Post by VAHunter »

Hi All. First I would like to thank everyone who posts on here. I have learned a lot about Crossbows since I starting reading this Forum last year after I bought my first Excalibur, an older model used Exomax. I bagged a doe last year and was really impressed by the preformance of the Exomax, I took one shot in the woods with it last year and brought home one deer :D !

This year I upgraded to a new Exomax with the Shadow Zone scope, and boy am I glad I had the Shadowzone. Went out for my first day this season on Thursday afternoon, Oct. 06. Saw a doe and a button buck after only 30 minutes in my new Tree Walker treestand, which I highly recommend BTW, but decided to pass on the doe in the hopes something nicer would come along. Didn't see another deer until right as it was getting dark and this Buck comes running full speed through the woods right toward my stand. I quickly turned the scope light switch on to a low red color as the Buck stops broadside right in front of me, 35 yards away. I carefully aimed the 40 yard cheron on the bottom of his chest and pull the trigger. He bolted and ran about 75 yards before falling and tumbling down the hillside.

Needless to say I was ecstatic and thrilled! A beautiful 10 point buck on my first trip of the season! I have bowhunted off and on for 20+ years and this is my first buck ever during the archery season! One shot, another deer down! Thank you Excalibur and everyone on here! My Exomax, Shadow Zone, GT Laser II arrows, and Spitfire XP Pro broadheads all worked perfectly! If you look closely at the photo you will see the exit hole right behind the bucks shoulder.

Also, went back this morning and saw 5 Does and a nice Black Bear from my treestand. I know if I ever get a shot at a Bear that I won't have a problem putting him down!

Now therefore take, I pray thee, thy weapons, thy quiver and thy bow, and go out to the field, and take me some venison; And make me savoury meat, such as I love, and bring it to me, that I may eat; that my soul may bless thee before I die. Gen 27:3-4
