Axiom Serves Up Thanksgiving Dinner
For a change, this morning was cold, clear and CALM! I thought it would be a good morning, but it wasn't until 9 a.m. that things started to get wound up. Up until then, I had an uneventful morning. But that was about to change.
Just short of 9 a.m., a big Doe and her fawn entered the food plot at the far end, 65 yards away and started heading my way. My ladder stand is in a big Persimmon tree and I knew they would end up down on my side of the plot.
About twenty yards into the field and nearly within my comfort range, they stopped and both looked to the West, where the deer normally come in. They started acting odd. The fawn would fake charge across the food plot then come running back to Mamma with her tail high. The Doe acted like she would charge also but then hold back. I was hoping it was the big bodied 10 pointer that I've seen on trail camera. Suddenly both the Doe and Fawn turn and hightail it out of there.
About two minutes later, 10 turkeys come strolling into the food plot! I was a little miffed, but I'm not the one to look a gift horse (or turkey) in the mouth. I waited until they crossed the food plot and started feeding under an Oak tree. I knew where they would end up, so I started slowly moving my Axiom into place. Then one of the young ones saw me and started putting. By that time I was pretty much in place as the flock started off to my left, just as I had planed. Then one of the young hens (never did see a jake) stopped at 33 yards and I figured it was then or never as all of them were getting nervous because of the one that started putting.
I heard the arrow hit her and she jumped about five yards and then she laid there. The others ran over and circled her, pecking and flogging her.
About that time, something caught my eye back to the right and I turned to see another Doe and Fawn enter the food plot. (remember the thing about not looking a gift horse in the mouth? ) I figured I might as well try and reload. I tried easing my limbs down onto the platform so I could cock the bow again. Heck, I had two more broadhead tipped arrows!
But it wasn't to be. The Doe spotted me and with a snort and wheeze she was gone. Oh well, I still have a fine young turkey for my mornings effort! The Does can wait until this evening

Now therefore take, I pray thee, thy weapons, thy quiver and thy bow, and go out to the field, and take me some venison; And make me savoury meat, such as I love, and bring it to me, that I may eat; that my soul may bless thee before I die. Gen 27:3-4

Good job Ok! Now go get that Doe and have a buffet! I'm in Ind and cannot make up my mind weather to get the axiom or phoenix? Any suggestions? Is that axiom as good as they say?
Hey...thanks in advance,

Hey Kill-m. I have the first year axiom, which many people say is nothing more than a Phoenix without the D pads. Personally, if I was you, I go with the Phoenix. Simply because I'm not a fan of the new Axiom design. If you like how they look, then either bow will do you very well.kill-m wrote:Good job Ok! Now go get that Doe and have a buffet! One thing to consider is whether or not you have all the accessories to go with an xbow. The Axiom comes as a kit which includes arrows, broadheads, field points, scope, etc. Basically everything you need to get started. You can buy the Phoenix in a kit that has all of that as well, or just buy the Phoenix by itself.
Good luck on either bow you purchase!

Thanks for the info. I actually do not care for the finish on the Axiom and the Phoenix sounds like a little faster and maybe not as loud with the front limb deal vs Axiom.
Great feedback!

I always tell my clients, if you want somebody to tell you what you want to here, I'm not the man for the job. It is my first year with an Xbow, and the either sex season is over here, but I have been extremely pleased with my Axiom. Have friends who bought other name brand Xbows and do not seem happy. It comes with a package, but you will still have to purchase additional bolts, bhs, and other misc stuff.kill-m wrote:I actually do not care for the finish on the Axiom
May have a different attitude at some point in the future, but who cares about the finish?

Congrats on the bird!!!
The fear and dread of you will fall upon all the beasts of the earth and all the birds of the air, upon every creature that moves along the ground, and upon all the fish of the sea, they are given into your hands. Gen 9:2

Nice turkey and great story too! Congrats.

Yeah, I cut her up into Turkey Tenders, marinate 'em in milk for a bit and then roll them in seasoned flour and then give em a dunk in hot Peanut Oil for just a bit!MarkMarine wrote:Congratulations neighbor! What time's the shindig? You fritter that hen up or how do you cook her?
