Congratulations on the doe. I know the feeling you describe so well. There is a closeness between you and the deer. The fact that you can watch the visible flight of your shot binds you even more than the invisible bullet there and gone.

Congrats on your first archery deer. Nice little doe there! I wish you many more safe and successful hunts! :)

Good goin' Nutz! Nice to get that first crossbow deer under your belt. Like you, I was a rifle hunter long before I was a crossbow hunter, and it took some adjustment on my part. The biggest problem was having to remind my self that any angle into the boiler room just won't do with an arrow. The other big difference is that the hunt is only halfway done after a well-placed shot. It ain't over until the blood trail leads you to the deer.

Isn't it great that the only meat damage is 2 little X's? :D

Congratulations Nutz!!!

The excitement comes from the time afield and the suspense of the close-up hunt.

How many times rifle-hunting have you sat and watched a deer slowly walk to within 25 yards of you? Playing your wisdom against the wind. Waiting for it to turn broadside to pick out the hair at which to loose your single arrow, and hoping your thundering heartbeat won't scare it away. Buck or doe, they don't do it very often.

However; far better chops, steaks, tender roasts, and burger comes from a fine doe than an old rutty buck.

Don't feel bad. Enjoy your harvest from the grunt to the gravy. And thanks for sharing your story.
