How dumb can I get

In the stand before sunrise.
Start watching squirells play everywhere.
I hear something moving in the brush 50yds out ok.
I sit and listen hopeing who ever will come into the opening.
Now the sound is getting closer.
30yds out I see a rack a big rack.
(Please remember this is public land so big racks are something unbelievable)
Bolt on rail, raise excal, he starts steping out at 25yds.
Let him come completely out of brush. I grunt squeeze trigger and nothing.
He watches my face as I start to glow red and bolts out.
I did count 12pnts.
Then I decided to go thru my mentle checklist
1. clear shot
2. bolt on rail
3. grunt
4. (the one I forgot) turn off saftey
My wife says I would rather have doe meat.

This being the first year I've hunted with a crossbow and since I've already done the same thing during target practice, It's quite possible I may do the same thing if I get a chance at a deer this year, I can only say I feel for you and will not make any other comment to you. For fear of jinxing myself.

I like too think I,m a killing machine with the best flying arrow and broadheads I can make. I shoot well and practice all the time and have the confidence to make the shot but when shooting at deer s--t happens to me a lot! seems like what ever can go wrong does! Good luck because if your like me you will need it .

Don't feel like you're the only one to ever do THAT. Also, forget to put a shell in the chamber of a semi-auto rifle until the deer is looking at you. Also, forget to put more shells in the mag. after letting friend borrow rifle. I'll think of more personal experiences later.

Look at it like this, at least you DID have the safety on. Better to be safe than anything else.

It's done, you learned from it, it's in the past. Move on and make good on the next shot.

I have fallen a sleep and wake up, not thinking and sit up only to scare of a couple of deer away.
