Another one bites the dust

Post by wabi »

(Posted this story to Boo's thread for the picture contest, but though I'd post it as a separate thread, too.)

I was sitting in my stand this evening thinking of the cold weather ahead and how it seems to penetrate an aging body more than it should. I was wishing one of the nice 8 point bucks that have been showing up on my camera would wander in when reality hit me as a small buck walked in from behind me. I could either fill my one "antlered" tag for the season or spend time later in a cold stand still hoping one of the big boys would stop by.
As usual, I decided not to let an opportunity pass.

Phoenix w/Leupold 2-7X scope, custom 2215s tipped with Wac'Em Exit broadhead, Boo string, and a short recovery as usual. He went down in sight this time, so I was able to phone the landowner and talk him into bring the tractor to haul it out on. Decided to get him to take a couple pics of me, too.

I can still buy 3 tags (2 either sex @ $24 and 1 antlerless ony @ $15), but all I'm allowed from here out is antlerless deer.

Our trapping season opens Nov. 10, so I'll probably spend my time thinning the coons that have been feasting on my corn for a few weeks.

I may buy another deer tag for the gun season (11/28 - 12/4).

Nice lookin' Cowhorn Wabi! I'm sure he'll go good this Winter when the snow is flyin'!
Now therefore take, I pray thee, thy weapons, thy quiver and thy bow, and go out to the field, and take me some venison; And make me savoury meat, such as I love, and bring it to me, that I may eat; that my soul may bless thee before I die. Gen 27:3-4
