My Big Buck

Post by laxman44 »

I have spent alot of time in the bush this fall, seen lots of deer and I had a few real nice bucks on some trail cameras my friend and I have set up on my property. I missed on a nice buck a few weeks ago. I felt sick to my stomach. I wasn't sure if i would get another shot at one of the big boys I've been seeing. Friday I rushed home form work showered and headed out to my tree stand where I missed a few weeks back. I have to climb a good size hill to get to my stand. Once I got to the top of the hill I immediately saw 3 nice does. They spotted me hissed and off they went into the bush. Not the greatest start to my evening. I got settled in to my stand and made a few calls. I had 4 does come in and feed, followed closely by a small buck. They all feed, the small buck tried his best to make a move but they were having none of it. The ran off and all went silent once again. I really was hoping that a big buck would come by. 4:45 and I decide to make a few more calls and see what happens. 5 min later a large doe walked up with a small one right behind. The doe however was very aggitated and nervous. I knew a buck was near by. She was constantly searching around smelling and searching for something. I knew it wasn't me because like I said before I had quite a few deer right under me feeding a half hour ago. The doe walked to my left and out of sight behind the tree I was in. She circled around. I looked over my right shoulder to see what she was doing. As she was coming back into sight I see this monster in hot pursuit. The circled in around 40 yards and slowly they were coming into an area where I could shoot. The doe passed in front of me and the big boy was growling at her like I have never heard before. I raised my excal to prepare myself. Just as I was about to shoot the doe must have seen movement and jumped. The buck turned around and walked 10 yards and turned back to look at the doe, he was slighlty quartering away from me. I sighted him in and let loose my bolt. I heard a thud and he ran 20 yards and stopped. He starting coughing and bolted he jumped 60 yards into the woods out of sight. iheard a large crash. I knew I got him. I waited a bit, got out of my stand and found my arrow. I went to the spot where he first stopped and found a nice pool of blood. I walked back to the house and got a good flashlight and went back to pick up the trail. I had a great trail to follow. He went about 70 yards and I had no problem following the blood trail. He looked big from the stand, but he looked huge when I got to him. his G2 measures 15 inch on one side and 14.5 inches on the other. I'm not sure if I'll get another buck like this one, but I am sure going to try.
