Make absolutely sure . . .

Post by sumner4991 »

Make absolutely sure you check the season dates every year BEFORE the season starts.

Otherwise, it's totally possible to hunt on Thursday evening and Friday morning before realizing the dates were changed and the season actually starts, this year, on Saturday morning.

Just saying . . .

And for southern Ontario hunters, don't forget that the archery season is closed in some WMU's from Dec. 5-11 during the shotgun/muzzleloader controlled deer hunts.

Probably would be both embarrassing and expensive to check a deer in on those days.

Also helps to verify a date of when the season ends, was almost all ready to organize a moose hunt, we were told the season ends on the 31st in our wmu, we were heading too... so i book the time off to leave for the 16th.... but the season ends on the 15th..... we decided to wait till next year now lol... Maybe bow season tho

If I had done something like that . . .then I didn't think I'd had been the first.

One other thing . . .

If a deer sneaks in behind you, then slowly bring the rifle around for a shot while keeping the body completely still. This is very important . . . make absolutely sure to completely shoulder the rifle or the recoil can leave a scope mark just above the eye.

Sort of like this one . . .

Deer season ussually goes to the first saturday in january (the 7th this years)here but with january beginning on a sunday they didn't want to giver us the few extra days so ending the first monday this year (the 2nd). Was putting in for the time off that week to get in a last few days in case i don't fill my last 3 tags between now and then. was taling to wife about it and went to show her the dates in the regs book and SURPRISE!!

I "have a friend" who once shot a turkey at the end of the fall season and found out that turkey went out two weeks earlier than deer. Ooops. :)

Know about the scope reach around thing too. Used to shoot an -06 Rem 700 bolt action. Killed the deer but really got tagged good. Had a severe flinching problem for years after that. Had to downsize and still have to work with it over 20 years later. Don't shoot anything bigger than 270.
