Private or Public

Post by Onetimeonly x--> »

I have been fortunate enough so far to harvest
two nice doe. One off private land and one from
public land. Just curious to see where most
harvests are coming from private or public?

Congrats to all that have been successful!!

I have over 17,000 acres of public hunting within a mile of me around a large Corps of Engineers lake, but I hunt on private. Believe it or not, the public land has more deer but is much harder to hunt. Few access areas and no use of 4-wheelers to retrieve your deer. Gary

I use to have access to 2 pieces of private ground,but 1 piece was sold & is now sprouting houses, the other piece the owner donated it to the county. So yesterday I shot my 1st deer with my new Axiom on public ground it was a 3 ptr. Its a big adjustment hunting on public ground,alot more hunters to deal with. So I try to find a spot away from the crowd,that can be real hard especially during the rut.

No public land around here where I hunt. I hunt my uncle's farm. Seen plenty this year but nothing in the freezer yet.

private land for me that the mason Dixon line runs thru so part pa and part md but quite a few hunters in gun and not many in archery. next year will be hunting the river hills by boat and can hunt md and pa on the river . The mason Dixon line is only a couple miles down river from me.

100 acres of private land for me, i buck and doe uring archery, and 1 buck and doe during rifle for a total of 4 so far. Bought 4 bonus antlerless tags the othr night so i can harvest 6 more does during the remining 3 weeks. My brother who also hunts the land has harvested 2 bucks and 5 does so far. Of course he has ulterior motive, he is the one that has to repair the horse fences when they tear them down, so he is won't let the mid-sized ones walk like i will.

I've gotten 3 deer so far this year, a 12 pt with the Equinox, a button buck with a .45 Colt carbine, and a doe with a .54 cal muzzleloader. All have been off of private land.

There's a big chunk of public land here by the house and some more down by where I hunt at, but I don't hunt it. There's several reasons for it though. First, I'm lucky enough to have private land to hunt. Others aren't so lucky and rely on public land. Since I've got the private land, there's no need for me to add another body to the already busy public land. The other reasons have to do with the amount of hunting pressure and I can't use a 4 wheeler to get up into it or get a deer out. Yeah, I'll admit it, I'm lazy. :lol: But I have the privilage to be. :wink:
