It's Quiet In Them Their Woods!

Post by DanO »

Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions as to where the deer have moved to. eg. swamps, higher ground, conifers etc.

I'm not seeing any activity and yet they were there 3 weeks ago. I'm in an area that usually has winter yarding but with this weird winter...........I'm lost as to where they've gone. I know they got hit hard on the first shotgun hunt but I did see deer after that. I have corn out every day and the turkeys are happy!

Anyone seeing deer on a consistent basis?

After 3 separate gun seasons here in IL, all of our deer are now nocturnal. Do you blame them? Find a bedding area and get in there about 2 hours before first light and you might see one. Gary

Same here. Our herd is very pressured and trail cams picking up deer from 6 pm to about 4 am!..weather has been very mild also which is limiting movement.

Alot of nocturnal activity but anywhere its thick they will move through looking fer food. I have a deep ravine down behind my cabin, i can see them moving during the daylight getting acorns down there. Thar be some nice Bucks i see too, but i would have to skin one & qtr it to pack up out of there. So i ain't that interested in them, its too hard on me body to do that anymore.

I'm willing to bet alot of them are busy with last minute Christmas shopping.

That's a good one J Krug. Well if I see one I'm going to take my usual amount of time "shopping". With the lack of snow they seem to be everywhere and nowhere.

Well I found them thanks to the snow. There's only about 4 deer in a herd that usually has 10+ deer. Poor winter and overharvest likely. They're bedding in a well drained conifer stand. It's only about 5 acres so they're pretty hard to approach. They move predawn to the corn and they don't come back through the day because it's been so mild they aren't hungry. Patience I think and hope I don't run out of time.

Ps. Tye how loud is a mouse fart???

it,s sill muzzleloader season here till next Saturday and they are laying low and not coming out in the fields or moving much till after dark.I spotted a big doe laying 50yds from my stand yesterday in the afternoon and she never got up when I left at dark. was going too get in the same stand tonight and changed my mine and went in another stand and my son went in his 50 yards from that stand and seen two bucks get up out of the thick stuff 20 yds from that stand and took off running and one was a big buck and the other a small one and both were crippled and limping . so I guess I be going too that stand soon again! needs too get colder here too get them moving more in the daylight. got over a month too hunt here so I,ll keep after them.

Masboy:
What WMU are you in. In 5C (southeast corner ) of the state any form of deer hunting has not been open for the last 2 weeks. Last year it was open, but this year it was not. It doesn't reopen until the day after Christmas. Then it will be archery, muzzleloader and rifle until the end of January.
