Ar/Ok 2012 Hog hunt

Post by awshucks »

Everybody coming got here safe and sound, starting w/ Don, Karin, and Danny around noon on 30th. Mike, his wife Fredna and Paul [flightattendant100]came on 31st.

First, the grub. Paul brought great slaw and cobbler. Don: 'what's cobbler?' Me: 'good stuff'. Karin brought some kind of Canuck goose thing in tomato/spaghetti sauce that was to die for. I kept left overs, lol.

So, 1st the 3-d shoot and results. I had a gazillion pics that didn't turn out. We didn't have actual 3-D targets only animal overlays stapled to: [1] bag at 20, [1] bag at 25, [2] bags at 30. [1] 30 yd bag had a hog on bottom, upper bag, a prairie dog upper left and what looked like a road runner to me upper right.

Scoring was closest to center got a 5, farthest out a 1, 2's, 3's, and 4's as they fell. We let Danny Miller score them as he was the only one here who didn't have to cheat to win, lol. Oops, Paul too, lol.

Boo Robinhooded Danny at 25, all 5 shots on that one would have been under a silver dollar!

The score sheet, notice 3 way tie at half way point: Paul was a point up at half way mark, Danny won it, [whoda thunk?]

Image

We killed 5 hogs, 3 between 10:30 am and 2 pm, I shot a sow about 174 # w/ .223, I'll let the others tell there own stories.

Here's Danny w/ flemish twisting class. Karin Katsumi in background. Took him under 5 min start to finish except for serving. He does that on a jig w/ actual limbs, something to bear in mind when the loop size discussions come up, lol.

We usually stopped at Sheilas Cafe in Smithville but it closed. Dale asked if we wanted breakfast there at ranch and what time. We got there at 9 am on the dot, the scrambled eggs were still steaming. Said eggs, home made bisquits and gravy, ditto on bacon and pork sausage. This pic is Sheila [his sister] and Tabitha [on right].
They also took the Kubota mule to pick up Don, Mike, and Danny after dark.

Mike just called, noon my time, they are heading home from fred's my nickname/Fredna]friends house in 'Y' city.

Here's some more pics

'Dr. Don' gloving up to load 3 hogs [great story, lol]
Image

Myself and Dale Toon, my hog on my left, think the other is Mikeys. Dale paid huge compliments to the guys, btw, "wishes everyone was like your friends."

Image

And, my favorite pic, a huge 'X' on my Bucket List, not meaning the 18-1 either, lol.
