FLETCHING DISTANCE

Hey everyone, I would like to know how far you put your fletching from the end of nock? I am trying out 2" blazer vanes and could use some help. Would like to get the right distance without trial and error. Thanks to you all in advance I appreciate your knowledge. They will be used on the Vortex.

The way i have my jig set up is 1 1/4" from the back of the nock. i do have some that are about 7/8" ...I cant tell any diff in flight. note the 7/8" is pushing the limit

I stick the rear of the shaft in my E-Z Bolt and what ever it uses for space is great(approx.1 1/4 in.). Dont have to set anything. Go with the Bolt! This is such an easy tool to use. I'm impressed more every time I use it.

I cut my scope mount for just that reason, you won't see any difference in flight with mechs no matter how far back, some fixed bhs need the flecthings as far back as you can put them, the further back the better flight for big fixed bhs.

I refletched some bolts & noticed the 2" Blazers were touching the scope mount. It didn't seem to affect the arrow flight. But when I refletched the next set of bolts I moved the vanes closer to the front of the arrow just a bit so they didnt touch the scope mount, they fly great.

The biggest issue with too far back . . .yes, hitting the scope mount, but, the result could be the arrow never fully "seats" against the serving/string.

You want to make sure the nock is firmly seated against the serving. And, in the middle of the nock is best.

there's no issue with touching the scope mount, the vanes just fold down....but anything closer then 3/4" the vane in the groove will touch the trigger block on the bottom and not allow it to fully seat against the string........bob

Thanks to all for your help. Seems like 1 1/4" is the most used. That is what I will try first. Great people here.

The physics of the matter dictate that the farther away the vanes are from the center of gravity of the arrow (balance point) the easier it will be for the fletchings to stabilize the arrow. If you shoot mechanicals you will likely never notice anything. But you will see a difference with larger fixed blades. Increasing FOC does the same thing by moving the center of gravity forward.

I have my blazer vanes set at exactly one inch from
the back end. This has worked well for me.
